About me

I am Poromenos (this is an alias, obviously). I am Greek and am currently a student at the Technical University of Crete in Electronics and Computer Engineering. I hate writing about myself, so I wrote on Porocrom’s Crappaper at whim, it’s down now because Wordpress is horrid. If you want to contact me, you can use my PGP/GPG key and email me at stav...@korokithakis.net.

Site Title

I added your RSS feed to my reader and love your content.

One suggestion though (I see you are from Crete so English might not be your first language). Your site title should read Poromenos' Stuff. You do not need the extra s. :)

Re: Title

English is indeed not my first language, but that has nothing to do with it :) I have seen various ways to write it, and various people told me it was one or the other. I have googled for it now that you mention it, and it says 'Words ending with s, z or x generally omit the "s."', therefore I will change it. Thanks :)

Not to end the Greek streak...

Sorry to type in boring old English after that lovely string of Greek, but the only foreign language I know to a certain extent is Spanish (sorry, the only non-English language... I suppose "foreign" is relative...). Anyway, how exactly does one use this public key in Mozilla Thunderbird? I can't exactly find the right function.

Re: Key

Erm, I don't use Thunderbird, but it probably has a PGP/GPG extension, so you just import it there and use it when emailing. If you don't have the extension, you should get one before trying anything else :)

answer 2 ASauce

You will need to use enigmail.
Its an adon to thunderbird http://enigmail.mozdev.org/

depending on what opperating system you use you might have to install gpg.

Re: Stuff

I'm going to reply in English, other people might have some of the same questions :) I'm not from Crete, I just go to school there! About moneygement data, what do you mean? I don't do anything with it, it just sits there. It says so on the front page as well, they won't be sold or shared with anyone :P I just wanted an app like that and decided to provide it to people as a convenience, because they might find it useful. The server *does* answer to https, just use it once and everything will be submitted over SSL. I didn't enable it by default because the certificate is self-signed and most people would be put off by "OMG THIS SITE IS NOT SECURE WATCHOUT!" warnings.

About the design, I just got a mac two days ago (as the latest blog post indicates). That design was supposed to be temporary until I created the "official" site design, but I can't stand half-finished things and decided it was probably good enough :)

tnx 4 the answer!

I would have guessed peloponisos :-)
I still can't find the "disclaimer" on the front page though. It doesn't realy matter anyway I just find it interesting whether or not developers care/think about security when they code or not.
Especially when you correlate an openID with finacial data and knowing that google finds everything ;-)

I am not trying to offend or attack you in any way. I realy like the Idea of your application especialy since I never took time to keep track of my expences. :-)

Btw bying a mac in greece is a though decision I think. I love them, got a g4 myself but try and get any support... googling for "rainbow.gr" and general mac users in greece doesn't give you that happy proud feeling you get in mac comunities around the world.

anyway I hope you don't regret it.
I don't want to write a new reply to your mac post so I post is here...
try http://docs.blacktree.com/quicksilver/what_is_quicksilver to overcome the 5.
I like quicksilver but in Leopard spotlight has become useable aswell

try http://www.manytricks.com/witch/ to cycle through windows and not apps
http://www.manytricks.com/butler is very powerfull to if you take the time to conf it

http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/ is the place to search for apps

hope it helps... let me know

have fun

Ah, that's no issue, that's

Ah, that's no issue, that's what authentication is for. Do you think that people can see your emails/chats/etc? Everything's built so that noone but you can access it, of course. About the community thing, I don't care very much about it, and I kind of hate the mac "community". I bought a new laptop, I didn't move house... Rainbow's support is kind of abysmal, though. Thanks for the other tips as well, they're great places and I already got Witch that takes care of the switching. I'm subscribing to versiontracker now as well.

How to Cretae an Internet Radio Station

Sorry for posting this in a different thread but I can't seem to be able to post in the topic I wanted to.

As a beginner to this type of projects, I found the tutorial to be excellent and it has answered a lot of questions.... it also seems to be a much better solution to what I was trying to do with Windows Media Encoder and Apache server.

I am trying to stream audio via wifi and lan to a network that does not have access to the internet and his may be part of the solution. I am using MP3 Lame encoder as some of the players will only work with MP3.

My questions now are realated to the bandwidth of the stream and the ability of the system to serve this audio to many users.

1. If my wifi router claims 54Mbps, and with the DHCP I am limited to 250 users, can I assume there should be around 200kbps per user, which means as I am aiming for 20kbps if the server is up to it I should be fine on the wifi distribution.

2. With the ODDCASTV3, if I set the bitrate to 20kbps, why is the transfer rate roughly 175kb/s to one user, what does this mean.

3. What differnce does changing the sample rate make to the bandwidth requirement ?

Thanks for any answers you can give on these matters,

Best wishes

Re: Internet radio

Normally I wouldn’t reply, which is why I disabled comments on that page, but your comment was more unique than the usual “This doesnt work what now” ones, so here goes:

  1. Correct.
  2. Because one is kilobytes and the other is kilobits, the numbers are correct.
  1. None, if the encoding bitrate is fixed you will get better encoding, but since you dropped the sample rate the quality will be lower. I’d keep it as is.

Another Greek Here

Hi there... Another Greek here. My name is Dimitris and I live in Athens. My mother is from Crete and I go to Crete every summer, Chania , to visit my grandparents. Of course I really adore Crete and Chania.

I have actually being in Balos and Gramvousa myself, I have even uploaded my videos in youtube , to share with the world what amazing place it is.

You can find them with other videos , of Fragocastelo and Elafonisi here

http://www.youtube.com/user/thekilon

I have found you from the UBUNTU FORUMS , PROGRAMMING TALK.

My blog is here

http://kilon.blogspot.com/

and as you can see I have like you many hobbies(3d/2d graphics, programming and composing electronic music). At the time I am not coding in Python but I am coding in Jython which is very very close . So I have found your articles here very very informative. Obviously Python interest me as well.

Keep up the good work, I will certainly keep an eye on your blog and hopefully we can keep in touch.
