How to download files with uTorrent.
If you've heard about BitTorrent and want to download files but don't know how, this tutorial is for you. All you need is uTorrent and you're ready. Watch the tutorial and leave a comment with any questions/feedback you may have.
Note: If you want to learn how to send files using uTorrent or a bit of information on how BitTorrent works in general, see this page. If you downloaded a .rar archive or multipart .r01, .r02 etc files, this page will tell you what to do with them. If you need help with uTorrent, visit their forums.

Generally, there will be a file called readme, or install, or something like that. You read that first, didn't you. DIDN'T YOU!!?!?

If it's an iso file, you'll need something like Daemon Tools which allows you to mount the iso files as if they were a normal cd.

If it isn't this could be the reason why your not getting downloads.
Also, are all your settings alright in your Speed Guide?
Last, are you setting bandwith allocations for files you download? Not doing this leaves your whole connection open, which means uploads will hog almost your entire network connection.

(like top gear) and ive open up the torrent and everything, and choose the one with the most seeds n leaches, and on my utorrent program it said downloading, and i left it there for awhile, but when i look at it again after like 3 hours, its still on 0.0 percent complete, so why is this happening? do i need to change some setting or something?

First off take a look at the very bottom bar of Utorrent, about 2 3rds from the left. You should either see a exclamation mark caution symbol, or a big green tick. If you don't have the big green tick, then something is wrong with Utorrents connection setup.
Do you use an access point to get onto the internet? (wireless box or the like). If so, you may need to forward the required ports for this to work. Clicking on the caution symbol then hitting test should tell you for certain.
If everything's hunky dory with that, then it could well be the torrent. Like many things in life, some are ghey, some are not. Some go quick.. some do not. There are many reasons.
Test it out on something other than top gear. That is a predominantly british release. Do a britney spears album or some shit and see what happens. (not that i am condoning that you steal a britney spears album, and i'm DEFINATELY not condoning you listen to it...)

Even though this is outside the scope of this tutorial, there’s an easy way to play videos on your computer. Just install the Combined Community Codec Pack and you’re set.

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 25/04/2007 - 20:00.Er, yes, that is in Options->Preferences->Connection. Uncheck "Randomize port each time uTorrent starts" if you have forwarded it manually. If you really don't know anything about a port, just enter a number between 20000 and 30000.

I need this because my torrent file doesn't start downloading......is there another way i can download torrent files without the torrent program....is there anyother way i can download the content off the website.without useing those anoying free sharing programs that never even work..

This is a really noobish question, but i just (successfully) *cheers* downloaded my first torrent. It is 100% done and after just getting back now after leaving it open for the weekend, i have uploaded atleast 6 times what i originally downloaded (hence completing the cycle) but it didnt stop like you suggested. I stopped the uploading manually, so what now?
The torrent is still there status "finished" To download more torrents should i just add them and then they will start or do i need to somehow remove the finished one from the que or something?

You can add other torrents if you want if that one is finished, but you should delete it if you don't need it, to reduce clutter. To delete it, just select it and press delete, or press the X. When it asks you if you want to delete it, make sure you don't delete the actual DATA, i.e. "Are you sure you want to delete the downloaded data for this torrent?", otherwise you'll lose what you downloaded.

I found a rather large torrent, and i only wanted to dl part of it so i selected the parts of it i wanted to dl. (5.75 out of 28 original GB)
But when it runs and is downloading, it still refers to the 'size' of the file as 28gb. Is this how it is supposed to be?, i really dont want to waste space with parts of a torrent i dont need.

Please see www.portforward.com for more information about how to map a port.
Please make absolutely sure that PeerGuardian2 or Protowall is allowing utorrent.com (72.20.34.145) in either of those programs. Those of you using ipfilter.dat should make sure the list does not include the website's IP. After making sure of this, re-run this test by refreshing the page (F5).
